And then I decided to rent a scooter
So far since my foot is still healing from the Hampi biking incident, I’ve been unable to go swimming. Because of that fact I’ve been delaying renting a scooter. You really need one to get from one beach to the other. Just to walk from Baga Creek where I’m staying to the main town takes about 45 minutes. This is a real hassle especially since that means I have to wait a good hour before even ordering food when I’m hungry.
I met a Raluca, a journalist from Romania, on a flight from Istanbul to Dubai. She was heading over to India after that. We kept in contact and I’ve recently realized that she has been here in Goa the entire time. One day she picks me up on her scooter and gives me a tour of all the beaches from Baga to Ajuna to Arambol.
It is so weird riding on the back of a bike. It’s actually really scary. We end our evening at Ajuna where there is a juice stand that everyone meets up at. We spend the rest of the night there and I decide to walk back home since it’s relatively close.
The walk is nice and I can sort of see by moon light. The roads for the most part have no street lamps. At one point I am chased by a gang of dogs until I cross a bridge. Then another group of dogs start barking and snapping at me on the other side. I end up picking up some rocks and scaring them away. Then fifteen minutes later I ran into a similar situation this time there are so many dogs that a few rocks only deters a few of them at a time.
I was stuck at this road block of growling and snapping dogs for a good twenty minutes before the first scooter rides by. I try to flag them over but they don’t stop. It’s another twenty minutes before an Indian guy stops and gives me a lift back to Baga. After this incident I decide to get a scooter. It’s a 125cc Honda moped, but it does the job and gets great gas mileage. I end up having the scooter the rest of my time in Goa.
