Guitar Building Day 1

Published by WeiHu at 6:55 am under Guitar Building, India

The guitar I decide to build is a classic Dreadknot. The woods used are Sitka Spruce for the soundboard, Indian Rosewood for the sides, back and fretboard, and finally Mahogany for the neck. Bone is used for the nut and saddle. The bridge and head piece is also made from Indian rosewood.

The raw materials come in sheets of wood. The Indian rosewood back and the sitka spruce sound board comes in two matched pieces which need to be joined. The sides are two flat pieces of wood which need to be soaked and bent into the dreadknot shape. The sound board is in one thick rectangular piece which needs to be shaped and smoothed. The neck is a long rectangular piece of mahogany which looks much like a piece of 2×4. A thin piece of Indian rosewood veneer is used for the head piece and a smaller slightly bigger piece of Indian rosewood is in the shape of a block which will later be shaped into the bridge.

Tasks:
1. Select wood
2. Join matched spruce panels for soundboard
