Bangalore: My First Big Indian City
Kathryn and I catch a night bus from hell to Bangalore. We are in the very back of the bus and the entire journey was rough. After a sleeping in 15 minute intervals until sunrise we arrive at Bangalore. There is not too much special about this city. It is overpopulated, dirty and very much populated.
All the roads are empty except for a few cows wandering around. The cows here are left to freely roam the streets. Many of them are bloated from eating trash and plastic bags. The rubbish gets caught in their digestive system and clogs it. They continue to eat and expand, eat and expand, until they become what I see before me: A huge round budging animal with four legs. Eventually these cows will die from a ruptured stomach.
While in Bangalore we take advantage of the westernized city. We eat at proper restaurants and visit shopping malls to escape the heat. We even find a bookstore that I end up spending several hours in. While in the main western area we find a movie theater that is playing Slumdog Millionaire. We book tickets and watch it later that evening. The strange part about this showing is that there is actually an intermission.
