Journey to Kodi
The journey from Munnar to Kodikanal is ridiculously long and arduous. The local bus is completely full and people are cramped in. We are left standing. Most of the Indians get motion sickness from the switchbacks as we work our way up the mountain and puke out the sides of the bus. We have a layover in a town that I can hardly pronounce the name. We are the only non-Indians and people stare and point as us. The children are curious and run up to us to do nothing but smile. Beggars seems to come out of every nook to ask us for money. It was quite the experience. The last bus ride into Munnar was not much better with the same motion sickness and blasting of music that’s so loud the only speaker on the bus is distorting as it plays at more than full volume.
Cold, tired and hungry we reach Kodikanal in the evening and eat at the first place we find. We quickly head to bed and prepare to head to Vadakanal the next morning.
